The New Mexico Office of  the Medical Investigator offers a  comprehensive training program for medico-legal death investigators under the auspices of the University of New Mexico.  Candidates for certification by the American Board of Medico-Legal Death Investigators can take their exams at the OMI office in conjunction with certain OMI courses.

A relatively new site, http://www.forensicsciencetechnician.net lists colleges offering forensic science degree programs.

How We Learn

There is no one universal learning mechanism.  Some of us learn by reading, others by demonstration, explanation and practical example.  Regardless of how we learn, we all need to put theory into practice and receive constructive criticism to refine our skills.

Before spending your hard-earned money on a training class, make sure that the instructor's method of teaching is compatible with your preferred way of learning.  There  is value in associating with other students with similar interests, exchanging ideas and information even if the course content leaves something to be desired.
